Better We, Better Week: Our Amazing Culture of Generosity

by Lori Beth Rodrigues

Hi Team,

This month marks my 8th year with E&I, and I couldn’t be more blessed. I have an amazing People team, along with amazing colleagues I work with cross functionally. Last, but certainly not least, I have an amazing Manager who is my mentor and continually believes in me, inspires me, challenges me and invests in my growth. I have even been fortunate enough to have found more mentors along the way on my journey. In my 8 years here, what I know for sure and have shared repeatedly is, at the heart of our culture is this innate amazing trait of generosity within our staff…And it’s beautifully contagious.

People here are always willing to give: to help, to teach, and to guide selflessly. I believe it’s the reason for our individual and organizational successful development and growth over time, becoming 1% better every day. This topic resonates with me deeply, as I have a great deal of gratitude for the many who have and continually support each other and contribute to our culture every day.

Case in point, I just returned from vacation last week, and I had a team of people who generously gave their time and wrote INCREDIBLE Better We, Better Week articles in my absence, and in addition, a team who ensured these articles were reviewed & posted and made sure the tech ran perfectly. (A heartfelt THANK YOU to Sean Esbjorn-Hargens, Erin Riley, Michelle Nettuno, Nicole Katz and Riken Prajapati!) This task was not easy, and it took from their reserves of their most precious asset- time. And yet, each of them was willing to do their part without reservation or hesitation.

It’s just like those who volunteer for Showcase our Growcase, and/or write for our blog, or sign up continuously for projects and task forces, despite their plates overflowing with work, or pitch in to help someone at the last moment. So why do it? It’s because we discover time and time again that it feels good to help someone and make a difference, and we learn something new almost every time through it all.

Check out this great article from Workplace Options, Benefits of Generosity: The Gift of Giving to Others, by Emily Fournier, Content Specialist who discusses the physical, mental and social benefits of giving to others. (Click here for article.)

To all of you who graciously give and give more, despite every obstacle and inconvenience, I thank you. Whether you may realize it or not, your gifts of giving to others have likely changed someone’s life for the better.

And on that note, I wish you all a Better We, Better Week. 😊

Thanks,

Lori Beth
